Singapore belongs to the top two most generous countries in Pacific Asia when holiday gift giving is being talked about. This data was according to the result of the 12-market survey among Groupon customers. Singaporeans prepares to give an average of 10 gifts this holiday season which doubled the average of six gifts in the Asia Pacific.
According to the survey, respondents plan to spend S$478 on gifts. They are second to Australians who pays out about S$559 (A$449). 79 percent of the Singaporean respondents plan to spend the same amount for presents or more this year. Although family is the main priority of Singaporeans, 30 per cent of the gift-giving will go to the neighbors and 27 per cent to the colleagues.
Shopping using a smartphone or tablet is also common and rising in Singapore. Survey found out those shoppers using mobile phones are almost the same on number from shoppers going online through computers. 64 per cent of shoppers purchase gifts using a mobile device almost the same number (69 per cent) to the ones using computers to purchase gifts.
Purchases through stores only account 49 per cent. If asked what they would do if given an additional holiday shopping budget, 46 per cent of Singaporeans said they would choose to buy something useful while 38 per cent said a little cool stuff for themselves would do. Across the Asia, Philippines with 58 per cent and Hong Kong with 57 percent, re-gifted the most while Japan with 31 per cent lists as the fewest number of gift-givers.
“Singaporeans are generous at this time of year and are searching for a wide range of holiday gifts,” said Adrian Tan, country head of Groupon Singapore. “Singaporeans are on-the-go shopping through mobile phones so mobile apps are very useful this season,” he added.
